THE BREEDERS

Glenn’s Floury Corn is the innovation of plant breeder, Dr. Francis Glenn, founder of Glenn Seed Ltd., Canada’s only independent corn genetics company. Located in southwestern Ontario, Glenn Seed is the source of Leafy Corn Silage Hybrids, which are grown on over half a million acres annually in 14 countries, including the United States, Canada, France and New Zealand.

Twenty years ago, Francis discovered a corn plant in his breeding nursery that produced floury kernels. Instead of the hard, vitreous kernels typical of grain corn, these kernels were packed with soft, floury starch.

Intrigued, Francis began integrating this floury kernel type into his germplasm, sensing a benefit for the dairy industry, but also an opportunity for the development of a novel starch type for food applications.

Following in the footsteps of her father, Francis Glenn, Plant Breeder Margo Lee continues the tradition of creating and maintaining high quality, innovative and agronomically robust corn hybrids that produce high yields of delicious floury corn.
